Guide to using Ginkgo Biloba Extract

Tag: Ginkgo Biloba Extract

Ginkgo biloba extract is one of the most popular herbal products in the world. Most ginkgo leaf extracts (GBEs) are standardized to contain 24% flavonoid glycosides and 6% terpenoids. This is the most research-proven composition.

Ginkgo biloba extract to improve blood circulation in the brain:

Ginkgo biloba extract (GBE) improves blood supply to the brain and improves brain energy production even when oxygenation is reduced. These effects can significantly ameliorate brain vascular insufficiency. Insufficiency of blood vessels in the brain caused by the hardening of the arteries (a disease in which blood vessels in the arteries harden) is a common symptom in older people. Numerous outstanding studies have demonstrated that Ginkgo biloba extract (GBE) significantly improves the major symptoms of cerebrovascular insufficiency and mental decline. The main symptoms of cerebrovascular insufficiency and mental decline include short-term memory loss and dizziness, headache, tinnitus, lack of vigilance, and depression.

Peripheral vascular dysfunction (intermittent claudication, Raynaud's disease, etc.):

Peripheral arterial disease (PVD) is caused by the same cholesterol-containing plaques that cause brain blood vessel dysfunction. Ginkgo biloba extract (GBE) has been shown in more than 12 double-blind clinical trials to improve blood flow in peripheral vascular dysfunction (PAD). In the case of intermittent claudication (characterized by pain when the calf walks), treatment with Ginkgo biloba extract (GBE) increases the pain-free walking distance (from 75% to 110%) and increases the walking distance. Ultrasound confirmed that it not only increased dramatically (from 52.6% to 119%) but also increased blood flow in the extremities affected by intermittent claudication.

Ginkgo Biloba Extract and Erectile Dysfunction:

A double-blind clinical trial has shown that Ginkgo biloba extract (GBE) can improve symptoms of erectile dysfunction due to impaired blood circulation in the erectile tissue. In one clinical study, 60 trial participants diagnosed with erectile dysfunction were given a low dose of 60 milligrams per day of Ginkgo Biloba extract (GBE) for 12 to 18 months. The blood circulation in the genitals was examined by ultrasound every 4 weeks during the dosing period. Signs of improvement in blood supply began to appear 6 to 8 weeks after initiation of dosing. After 6 months of dosing, 45% of patients regained their erectile function, and 50% of patients showed significant improvement in blood circulation and erection ability.

Ginkgo Leaf Extract and Dementia:

Ginkgo biloba extract has been proven to have a positive effect on improving mental function in several cases of dementia (senility), including Alzheimer's. Ginkgo biloba extract (GBE) has been shown to improve brain function in many patients. However, Ginkgo biloba extract (GBE) is ineffective in patients with already established Alzheimer's disease. For dementia caused by decreased blood flow or depression, Ginkgo biloba extract (GBE) usually improves.

Ginkgo biloba extract and depression:

For the first time, Ginkgo biloba extract (GBE) was shown in clinical studies to be effective in mood-altering in patients suffering from cerebral vascular insufficiency. An additional double-blind clinical study found that Ginkgo biloba extract (GBE) was responsible for its antidepressant function.

Ginkgo biloba extract and inner ear dysfunction (vertigo, tinnitus, etc.)

Ginkgo biloba extract (GBE) has been shown to improve symptoms of vertigo caused by brain vascular insufficiency. The results of a double-blind clinical study examining the efficacy of ginkgo leaf extract (GBE) in patients with tinnitus (ringing in the ears) are unclear. This is probably explained by the fact that patients with recent-onset tinnitus are more likely to benefit from Ginkgo biloba extract (GBE) than patients who have had at least 3 years of onset.

Other uses of ginkgo leaf extract

Due to the general effects of Ginkgo biloba extract (GBE) to improve energy production, act as an antioxidant, and increase blood flow, Ginkgo biloba extract (GBE) is beneficial for attention deficit disorder and anti-aging, diabetes and liver function improvement and detoxification, stress and anxiety. It is helpful for many ailments, such as sun damage and skin protection.

Ginkgo Leaf Extract: Normal Dosage

The typical dose of standard ginkgo leaf extract (GBE) containing 24% ginkgo leaf flavone glycosides is 80 mg three times daily. Because there are so many variations in the composition of dried ginkgo leaves and crude extracts, it is difficult to plan to dose with different parts of Ginkgo Biloba.

Ginkgo Leaf Extract: Possible Side Effects

Because ginkgo is very safe, side effects are extremely rare. There are not enough studies on the use of ginkgo leaf extract (GBE) during pregnancy or lactation. Therefore, it is not recommended to take it during pregnancy and lactation.
